Firemen and women rock. (Yeah I'm talking to you Chris Eakman...love you brother. You are always fighting the good fight.)
I'm 99% sure that the house and cat we had to leave behind are fine.
When I left, the fire was about 200 yards from my house in 50-80 mph wind, coming our direction. We were across the road though so we still had a pretty significant barrier, and I had mowed all of the tall grass a month ago so we are pretty well protected...that was until I saw how fast the fire was moving.
I have a beautiful mountain home that holds my office, my wife's office, and all of our earthly possessions. That I could let go of attachment to, but it came clear the 3 things that get me out of bed each day:
My family.
My friends.
My purpose.
I may have to re-think the name of my company though...Fire Mountain? Uuuhhh...right.
I'm very tired...this "predicament" has drained me. But it gave me a few ideas for predicament 2.0.
Thank you for all of the prayers and wonderful thoughts. It was very moving and effective. We are fine thanks to you. My family is safe.
The gift is the question I have asked so many times in the last 28 hours:
What really matters to you?
Everything that mattered fit in my car. That is why I could remain calm. I knew that I had what really mattered. It was my priority and I had protected it.
I pass this question on to you. Connect with your answer in your heart. Let it guide your actions. Remember the "Back off!" drill? You had to get the job done for what really mattered. As I walked around the house yesterday trying to decide what that was, I saw everything I had surrounded myself with very clearly. What I can let go of.
What really matters to you?
I'm gonna go take a nap.
Smelling like smoke,
Aaron
